Historie rybníkářství a cechu rybářského
Osídlení Třeboňské pánve v 11. a 12. století je spojeno především s působením mocných Vítkovců. Toto území popisuje historik Teplý takto: Prales málo obydlený, lesní poušť ohromná, plná vod, bažin, jezer, jimiž protékaly potoky a řeky, poušť ve které vedle medvědů, vlků a rysů i jiné havěti se usídlili jen rybáři, bobrovníci, brtníci a knížecí hajní.
Potomci Vítka III. si někdy před rokem 1250 vybudovali hrad na horním toku Vltavy jemuž dali jméno Růžová hora – Rosenberg – Rožmberk. Od té doby se nazývali pány z Růže.
Rožmberkové byli mezi prvními panskými rody, kteří zavedli organizaci zbožní výroby. Hlavními zdroji bylo pro ně hornictví – těžba drahých kovů a rybníkářství ztělesněné rybníkáři mezi kterými jsou nejvýznamnější osobnosti Štěpánka Netolického, Mikuláše Rutarda a Jakuba Krčína. Rybníkářské řemeslo v polovině 14 století náleželo mezi výnosné a tudíž vážené druhy lidské práce kolonizační, neboť odvodňovalo celé oblasti dosud neproduktivní půdy, rozmnožovalo řádné louky, vysušovalo mokřady na úrodná pole, připravujíce tak místa pro nová sídla vesnic a měst (Českých Budějovic, Pardubic, Vodňan a sta vesnic). Většina rybníků, které společnost Rybářství Třeboň Hld. a.s. vlastní, byla postavena již koncem 15. a hlavně v 16. století za vlády českého šlechtického rodu Rožmberků. Nejslavnějšími staviteli těchto rybníků a vodních děl byli Mikuláš Ruthard z Malešova, Štěpánek Netolický a Jakub Krčín z Jelčan. Osobnosti rybníkářství
Rybníky a jejich historie
Rozhodující význam pro zdokonalení a rozvoj rybníkářství na Třeboňsku měl Josef Šusta (1853-1914) jeho kniha "Výživa kapra a jeho družiny rybničné" se stala světovou učebnicí rybnikářství . Šusta svými výzkumy a jejich ověřením v praxi postavil rybníkářství na vědecký základ a je právem označován za nestora moderního rybníkářství.
